Dill (Charles Baker) Harris"Well I'm gonna be a new kind of clown. I'm gonna stand in the middle of the ring and laugh at the folks.”
Dill has become Jem and Scout's best friend. Dill lives in a city when he isn't visiting the Finch's during the summer when he lives with his aunt. Dill has seen movies and tells Jem and Scout about them. When him, Jem and Scout go to the Radley house for the first time, it was Dills idea to dare Jem to touch the house. Dill ends up running away from home because he feels neglected by his step-father. He feels like they're better off without him. During the court case, (Chapter 17-19) Dill gets real emotional. He feels sorry for Tom because of how he's being treated. He views the case much differently than Jem and Scout do since he does live in a different town and doesn't experience this situation. He's against the racial intolerance that Maycomb has. |

This is a strange choice, but for Dill I chose a movie clip from Madagascar 3 . In this clip, Marty sort of resembles a clown. I chose this because in the book, during Chapter 19, Dill says a quote:
"I think I'll be a clown when I get grown […] There ain't one thing in this world I can do about folks except laugh, so I'm gonna join the circus and laugh my head off." "You got it backwards, Dill," said Jem. "Clowns are sad, it's folks that laugh at them." "Well I'm gonna be a new kind of clown. I'm gonna stand in the middle of the ring and laugh at the folks.” This passage happened after Tom Robinson lost the case. Dill just wants equality. |
