Tom Robinson: Tom Robinson is a citizen of Maycomb. Tom Robinson is one of those guys you wouldn't think would hurt a fly. He goes out of his way and treats people with respect and helps everyone who needs help. Unfortunately, Tom gets accused of raping Mayella Ewell. There was no way he could of done it because his left arm was disfigured (Mayella had to of gotten hit with someone's left arm). Even though his defense by Atticus Finch was spot on, he still lost the case and was sentenced to death.
In Chapter 19, during his court case we discover what happened from Toms point of view. Tom was walking by the Ewell's house and Mayella invited him in. As he was standing up on a chair, Mayella hugged him, and wanted him to kiss her. Her father Bob, saw through the window and started yelling at Mayella. Tom ran away. We also discovered what he thinks of Mayella. He did all of these things to help her was because he felt bad for her. Sadly closer to the end of the book, Tom got shot and died. .In a way, Tom is like a "mockingbird". He never did anything to wrong anyone. He cut up Mayellas chifarobe for her and whenever she needed help. Yet, he got punished for it, Just like how Mrs Maudie described killing a mockingbird. Tom Robinson's death was a mistake in itself but Mr. Underwood had a specific reaction. Since he writes the Maycomb Tribune he can say anything he wants about this issue. Of all things he chose to tell everyone about the crime they have comitted in letting Tom Robinson die in prison. The book says "Mr.Underwood simply figured it was a sin to kill cripples...he likened Tom's death to the senseless slaughter of songbird by hunters and children." |

For Tom, I chose "Livin' On A Prayer" By Bon Jovi. I chose this song because being a black man and being accused of a crime as big as rape, he has a next to nothing chance of winning. Even though he knows this, he's still fighting for freedom. He's basically fighting for his life.
